There is a multitude of problems faced by elderly people. Firstly comes the social problems such as undergoing rapid transformation due to urbanisation, industrialisation, globalization and technological changes. In addition, traditional values lead to loosening of the intergenerational ties. Apart from the social problems, there are issues related to disillusionment, isolation, generational gap and negligence by kids that are faced by elderly people. Moreover, 34 per cent of the people are dependent on cash transfers. The prevalence of health issues such as osteoporosis, blindness, and cardiovascular diseases are wooing elderly people all the more. To redress these issues, the government has introduced lucrative schemes such as the Atal Pension Yojana, National Pension System, Pradhan Mantri Vaya Vandana Yojana, Varistha Pension Bima Yojana and the Indira Gandhi National Old Age Pension Scheme. All the aforementioned schemes benefit the elderly ex-employees of the unorganised sector. For instance, the Atal Pension Yojana enables the workers of the unorganised sector to contribute a part of their income in their working years. In addition, the central government has also made payments of  50 per cent or Rs 1000 per year to the subscribers. In the event of the untimely death of the subscribers, the nominee can claim the amount. The National Pension scheme is the most popular of all the pension schemes. It was launched in the year 2004 and government employees mainly benefited from this scheme. Furthermore, the Pradhan Mantri Vaya Vandana Yojana is a government-backed pension scheme for senior citizens. This scheme is offered by the largest insurance company in India.e., the LIC. Another popular scheme is the Varistha Pension Bima Yojana offers guaranteed returns and income security to senior citizens. Finally, the Indira Gandhi National Old Age Pension Scheme ensures a healthy financial future for elderly people. Under the ministry of AYUSH, the Indian government also offers health care facilities for the elderly people
