Pleasures of friendship Essay (State Service Main Exam 2019)
Introduction
Friendship brings pleasure because of the enjoyment it entails. In other words, the happiness of making friends is exquisite. As opined by Aristotle, friendships are of three kinds: Friendships of utility, friendships of pleasure and friendships of good. Friendships of utility are those whereby people become friends mainly due to some benefits they might derive from one another, for example, the business partners. People who find out pleasure in friendships do not have any motif of driving benefit from one another. These people share their bond with one another without even the slightest benefit of some material gains. Friendships of the good are rare to find and develop.
Discussion
True friendships are difficult to find and also they are marked by positivity, faith and cooperation. In the greater theory of ethics, Aristotle’s theory of friendship occupies a significant place. He asserted that friendship does not add an external value to the people, it rather creates a self-sufficient life. One of the most important constituents of happiness is friendships. A person who has friends is self-sufficient and develops greater self-esteem. A true friend can help to go through all the thick and thins. Preventing isolation and loneliness can be prevented when friends as a suitable back -up.
Friendships by developing mental health also impact the physical health of the individuals, in a positive way. They help in goal setting thereby encouraging healthy behaviours. By acting as emotional support, friendships infuse happiness among people. As detailed in the song about friendships “ we need somebody to lean on”, substantaites the essence of having friends in life. True friends have the power to mould the personality of human beings thereby bringing them a better version of themselves. By being non-judgemental, they show their infinite love to their friends and identify them for truly what they are. Important values such as patience, perseverance, optimistic attitude are also incorporated by good friends. A human being can be pushed further to be the best erosion of themselves by a true friend.
It is also important for nations to be friends with one another as it avoids conflicts and unnecessary violence. And for this reason, the Tashkent Declaration, a peace treaty was signed between India and Pakistan that helped in resolving the Indo_Paksitan war of 1965. Merger and Acquisition is another type of friendship that is shared by the business organisation to earn maxim profits. There are many examples of mergers and acquisitions which is evident from Square’s acquisition of Afterpay, the leading fintech company. In addition, Adobe’s acquisition of Figma also brought great profit to the former.
Conclusion
In conclusion, it can be said that friendship can bring great pleasure because of the advantages it brings. While being with good friends people enjoy a better state of mind. In addition, people who have pleasant friends can get their self-esteem and self-confidence boosted. However, a person who has no friends ends up being in isolation and depression. Even the nation prefers being in alliance with the neighbouring nation so as to prevent war and business organisations, too, also enter into mergers and acquisitions for the many benefits it entails.
