“Isothermal Process” MHT-CET Class 12 Physics Crash Course | Chapter Thermodynamics
In this session G.S. Khairnar discussed the theory and MCQ’s of “Isothermal Process”. The session will be useful for all the aspirants of MHT-CET 2022. The session will be in Marathi and English.
Isothermal Process:-
Hello dear students, we are familiar that familiar about thermodynamic variables. Parameters like temperature, pressure and volume are used to explain the concept of thermodynamic process. Process in which the initial state of system changes to final state is known as thermodynamic process. During this process, heat may transfer from the surrounding. In this article we are going to discuss the process related to temperature.
Let’s learn the concept of isothermal process….!
The process in which the temperature of system remains constant throughout is known as isothermal process. i.e. △T=0. It is constant temperature process. The transfer of heat to surrounding takes place at very slow rate, due to which the thermal equilibrium is maintained throughout the process.
According to Boyle’s law, at constant temperature, pressure of given mass of gas is inversely proportional to its volume.
Then PV= constant
Or, P1V1=P2V2
Consider the expansion of gas under isothermal system, in which the volume of gas changes from Vi to Vf
The Work done during the process is given as,
∴ dW= P×dV………………….. (1)
To find the total work done we need to integrate the above equation from Vi to Vf
In isothermal process, temperature is constant. Due to this the kinetic energy of molecules remains constant, this indicate that the change in internal energy of system is zero. △T=0
Then the 1st law of thermodynamics can be written as,
i.e. heat given to system completely transferred in to work done.
The graphical representation of isothermal system is known as ‘isotherm’, which is the graph between pressure (P) vs volume (V).
