NOMENCLATURE
Common name system
common name are derived by naming the alkyl Groups followed By halide as a separate word that is alkyl halide position and the arrangements of the alkyl halide group and alkyl group are indicated by the prefixes n, iso, neo, sec-, tert-.
IUPAC name system
(1) Mono halogen derivatives are named as halo alkanes,Halogen atoms are considered as prefixes that ischloro, bromo, Iodo, fluoroetc.
(2) Select the longest continuous chain of parent alkane.
(3) Position of halogen atoms indicated by number by minimum number rule (lowest locant).
(4) Position of alkyl group or side chains are indicated by proper locants and their names are written in alphabetical order as prefixes.
